General Questions

Starting out on your aged care journey can be daunting. Your first step is to determine what type of help you need as this will assist you in identifying the services available to you. It is also important to learn about the different types of care available, as you may be eligible for government funding. The My Aged Care website www.myagedcare.gov.au can provide you with information, or alternatively contact us for personalised and professional assistance in navigating your way.

My Aged Care is the Australian Government’s entry point to the aged care system in Australia. It provides information on government funded aged care services, assessment eligibility and aged care providers.

Yes, help is certainly available, and you are not alone. SereneCare can assist you with all elements of the My Aged Care process, from assisting you to register in the first instance, to choosing a provider that best meets your needs, preferences and goals. SereneCare can assist you to investigate and select a home care provider that best meets your service needs. A SereneCare Consultant will meet with you and/or your supporting carer to discuss your individual needs and expectations. We will then use this information to assist us to research organisations able to provide the services you require at competitive costs. We will then support you to meet with service providers, assisting you to ask the right questions before making your final selection.

No. You only need to register with My Aged Care if you wish to access government funded services. Many providers, like SereneCare also provide privately funded services which do not require a My Aged Care registration and assessment. Privately funded services may also be an option, whilst you are waiting for an assessment and/or approval for government funded services.

We understand that families cannot be around 24 hours a day. At SereneCare we have care workers available to keep you company in the evening, as well as through the day. Our care workers can share a meal with you, take you to a movie or the theatre, or be there with you to watch your favourite television show. The options are endless. At SereneCare we recognise the importance of maintaining social connections which can become difficult as we age.

At SereneCare we understand the importance, for many, of keeping their home clean and can assist with this.  We will initially sit with you to understand your needs and expectations and also ensure we can deliver what you need. A SereneCare team member will accompany our cleaner to your first service, to determine what tasks are to be completed and ensure these tasks are performed to a very high standard.

We understand that life is not always a smooth journey and sharing concerns and feelings with family and friends may be difficult. SereneCare can certainly help and our counsellors can visit you at home or at a location of your preference. Accessing a counselling service is completely confidential and can be tailored to meet your individual needs. Our counselling service can be organised as a once off session, or as an ongoing/regular service depending on your needs. If you have a Home Care Package, you can ask your service provider to fund this service through your home care package.

Absolutely, SereneCare can organise a door to door pick up and drop off by one of our dedicated care workers. Our care workers can drop you at medical appointments (clinics and hospitals), and if necessary, stay with you until your appointment is finished. Our care workers can assist with taking you shopping, loading and unloading your groceries into the car and also help you to unpack your groceries on return to your home. If you prefer to be dropped off at the shopping centre and then picked up once finished, this can also be arranged. SereneCare can be as flexible as needed with your support needs.

Looking for a nursing home/residential aged care facility can be a very daunting, time consuming and emotional task. SereneCare can assist by taking some of this on board, allowing you to focus and maintain a quality relationship with your parent/s during what can be a very stressful period. Our SereneCare consultants will organise to meet with you and/or your parent/s to discuss your situation and care needs. We will explain the entire process to you, including My Aged Care registration, assessment by the Aged Care Assessment Service and selection of Nursing Home/Residential Aged Care facility.  SereneCare can provide you with the information and steps to complete the process yourself, or alternatively we can actively assist you with completing some of the necessary steps, providing you with one to one support throughout the entire journey.
